The Talk and Run

So, I have had an experience probably once a day that has baffled my mind. It happens with the same individuals every morning. Oh and Monday's are the worst. I like to call this move the "Talk and Run". This action occurs when an individual asks you a question and then quickly leaves the area of vocal range. Sometimes the reason is they are just being polite. Others are when they make a statement believing they are correct and therefore do not need to hear your response. I, however, believe many times this occurs because the individual simply enjoys the sound of their own voice. Some of my favorites include:

"Hey! How was your weekend?" as they walk into another room.
"Wow. You got your hair colored" as I respond "Oh actually I got it cut...and you're gone"
"Do you have time to do this great here's what I want" as one complete sentence.

I mean honestly, if you're going to ask a person a question at least stay to hear the response. We don't care if you don't ask. We do care if you ask and walk away as if our response is nothing but noise in the background. At the very least, pause just a moment, so we may think that you are staying to hear what we have to stay. If you don't have time, the answer is oh so simple...Don't ask! Really, how hard is that??? All in all the "talk and run" should not be committed.

Oh look, here comes the biggest one of all. Wonder what I'm in store for today....

Homemade vs. Store Bought

The result? I win :) Okay so if you don't know I have 5 weddings, 3 bachelorette parties, 2 birthdays, 1 bridal shower, 1 friends reunion, 1 baby shower and 1 benefit this summer. Needless to say...I'm very busy and very broke :) With all of these things, I've come to love the craft store Michaels. This place is awesome and it lets me be crafty.

So the first thing I made was a pretty pink box for my friend Megan. This is like a memory box. Something to put all of her sashes, pictures, shot glasses ect in to remember her bachelorette party. I really liked making it and it was SOO easy. Basically you go to a craft store, get a box, buy some fun stationary decorating things, maybe some ribbon and just glue it all on. You can customize them to their favorite colors a, a theme, ect. They work for baby showers, girls night outs, birthdays, all sorts of things. She loved it and it was $30 for the stuff. Not bad ;)

The other thing was a bit more of a learning experience. I eventually enjoyed the outcome. The problem was Jed was gone so there was no one here to distract the cats. They unwrapped my diapers, ate my tissue, carried of my ribbon and then I ran out of tape. By the time Jed called I was so frustrated and just trying to keep them from eating things. He came home with tape, new tissue and a boxy of fruits since I couldn't eat chocolate (ulcer). How sweet is that! I am very smitten with him. Anyways, a few things if you're going to make a diaper cake.

1) It's easier if you use 1 ribbon to hold them together

2) Use very strong tape and do this first

3) If you don't use enough tape...they will pop open

4) Cut a cardboard base to fit the whole cake

5) Don't have pets around

All in all it turned out okay :)

3 blisters, ribbon, tape and lots of frustration later....

....It turned out well

Cleo is proud of "her" work ;)

My Exhausting Weekend

Our friends Andrew and Megan had their bachelor and bachelorette parties this weekend. The boys went to Lake Chelan and went boating and stuff like that. Needless to say there are no photos of that since apparently it's an unwritten rule to not take photos at a bachelor party. We took loads of photos however. I have never been so tired on a Monday in my life. I think I slept like 20 hours in 3 days. It was super fun though.

We showed up the night before and spent about 2 hours trying to find a hotel room...in some sketchy places on MLK blvd in Portland...yeah that was fun :) The next day we got ready and proudly wore our hot pink shirts that read "Megan's Bachelorette Party 2008". The day started off with High Tea at the Heathman Hotel. Ooooh I swear food tastes better when it's tiny. It was so much fun! Then we went and got Pedicures. One girl got cut, but other than that it was just drinks and pampering. Finally we went to the hotel. Just an FYI Embassy Suites has complimentary happy hour! We took full advantage of that. With a happy, but mild buzz we hit dinner and had delicious food in our tummies! Then it was off to reek havoc in Portland. We went to the Dixi which is like a "coyote ugly" style bar. With free drinks and a proper dance floor we had a great time. The night ended when some guy with a boot stepped on Megan's toe and cut it up pretty good. Some of us went for enormous NY Style (the best style) pizza. MMMM

All in all it was a great weekend. An exhausting weekend but a great one. Until my next great adventure...hmmm oh baby shower and Blockbuster Girls Reunion this weekend! Man I'm way too busy for my own good. Sheesh!

Here are 17 of the 65 that were taken. :)

Val decorated the car we drove. We got lots of honks :)
